Transgender Day of Remembrance

Today, November 20, is Transgender Day of Remembrance! It is a day to honor transgender individuals who have lost their lives because of violence against transgender people.

Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were transgender activists and are credited for starting what we know as Pride today in the LGBTQ+ community. Although Marsha P Johnson is most notably known for being the first person to stand-up for police violence against the LGBTQ+ community, she and Slyvia Rivera started an important organization called STAR to help give homeless transgender a home, and a safe place to be themselves. We honor them for starting a revolution for acceptance, safety, and love; and for being trailblazers for the LGBTQ+ community!
