This past October a few students joined around 750 other high school students across the state for the Connecticut Fall Leadership Conference held at the University of New Haven to kick off the new DECA school year. Students attended workshops on how to dress for success for an interview , how to recognize the entrepreneur within all of us and learned more on how to prepare for the competitive events this fall.
Competitions are held by business people across the state where students will present on the topic of their choice according to the guidelines and rubrics set by the organization.

The Business Department at Bulkeley High School has launched a DECA Chapter led by new Business Education teacher, Ms. Mari-Jo Scandura. Ms. Scandura is currently teaching Personal Finance and Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management. DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America and is a nationally recognized club for high school and college students. It prepares emerging leaders who are interested in pursuing a career in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Personal Finance and Management. Students compete at the state and national level in these areas by career clusters of their choice. DECA is open to all students at Bulklely High School who are interested in developing career skills, build self-esteem and workplace readiness skills such as how to prepare for an interview. Members will be involved in fundraising and activities to help fund various events throughout the school year as well as fun activities to bond as a club. Not all members have to compete but are encouraged too.

There is still time to join! Please see Ms. Scandura in room 223 as soon as possible to get more information or email her at scanm001@hartfordschools.org. You can also go to DECA.org or ctdeca.org to get more information. Check out this quick video!! https://vimeo.com/354726281
